Rebound – A Musical Short Story

rebound - short story with musical ending

Stuti is a brave heart… Picking up from where one has left is a courageous act.. Not everyone can do it.And forgiving someone is rather much more gallant!

Stuti returns home after bidding adieu to her daughter, Khevana who is going abroad for further studies. The telephone rings. Her friend Kaveri is on the other end.

“Hi, sorry I couldn’t make it to the airport. Has she left?” Kaveri apologizes.

“Yes, the flight was on time. By the way, where have you been the whole day? I tried to call you at noon.”

“Stuti, I need to tell you something. Aniruddha is here. He is not well and we have admitted him to the City Hospital. We were with him since morning.” Kaveri explains.

Stunned Stuti asks for a few minutes to respond in this unexpected situation. She hasn’t heard from Aniruddha since been divorced 8 years back. Now, his sudden arrival in a down-at-heel condition has agitated her.

Meanwhile, a message blinks on her cell.

“Talked to him this morning… Dad needs you! You are the strongest person I have ever known… You always know what to do… Love you more than anything!” Khevana.

The song on the radio set in the cab rushing towards the hospital, brings a faint smile on Stuti’s face…
