4. Sense of responsibility – a virtue or a trait?

Responsibility is a personal quality arising from within an individual, implying to the choices for their own actions. One can’t impose it but can be shaped by education, socialization, and cultural norms. When we say that individuals should be held accountable for their choices; we can’t ignore the influence of external factors on individual behavior, like social pressures, economic constraints, and systemic inequalities. Responsibility is a positive character trait motivating individuals to act ethically, fulfill their obligations, and strive for personal and collective betterment, suggesting that a sense of responsibility is essential for personal growth, social progress, and a just society. But also, a strong sense of personal responsibility can sometimes lead to self-blame and guilt, especially when individuals feel overwhelmed or powerless.
